Stephen M. Kalna, 82
AUSTINTOWN There will be funeral services at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, at
the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel, for Stephen M. Kalna,
82, who died early Wednesday morning at his home.
Stephen was born Nov. 8, 1924 in Hubbard to the late Stephen J. and Mary
Toporcer Kalna.
He attended Wilson High School and the Our Lady of Lebanon Shrine in North
Jackson. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Atlantic Theatre
during WWII. He was captured on the France/German border and was a POW in
Germany for more than seven months. He retired from Hynes Industries, where
he was a machine setup operator.
Stephen leaves two daughters, Janet Russ Peacock of Hubbard and Stephanie
Sanders of Austintown; three sons, Robert Kelley Sisler Kalna of
Youngstown and Ronald Kalna and Michael Jody Kalna, both of Austintown;
two sisters, Katherine and Margret; 11 grandchildren, Thomas Yaksich,
Richard Kristin Kalna, David Sara Kalna, Jason Sisler, Michael Jones,
Stephanie E.M. Sanders, Alissa Kalna, Kara Kalna, Christy Kalna, Amber Kalna
and Brittany Jones; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, Stephen was preceded in death by his beloved wife,
Helen I. Hoffman Kalna, whom he married July 9, 1945 and passed away Jan.
5, 2000; a daughter, Judith Yaksich; a son, Richard Kalna; a grandson,
Anthony Sanders; a brother, Jack; and three sisters, Mary, Helen, and Ann.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.
