BOARDMAN - Prayers will be held Wednesday at 9:15 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Christine Church for Stephen F. Marrie, 89, who passed away Saturday at Shepherd of the Valley.
Stephen was born Feb. 13, 1922, in Youngstown, the son of the late Stephen J. and Marie J. Cunningham Marrie.
Stephen served in the Navy during World War II. He worked for the U.S. Post Office and Republic Steel. He then became a turn foreman for Heckett Engineering in Butler, Pa. for 22 years, retiring in 1983. After retiring, he was a courier for Dollar Bank and then worked security for Wells Fargo. He was a member of United Steel Workers Local No. 6641, where he served as president for three terms. He was a member of the VFW.
He was well known for his singing voice and sang at many weddings and funerals. He sang with Fitch Productions Minstrel Shows, the Happy Wanderers, the Dukes of Harmony Barbershoppers and Sheet & Tube Chorus.
Stephen leaves his wife, the former Selma "Sally" Ball, whom he married Nov. 26, 1947; his daughter, Susan P. Richard Payne of Boardman; a sister, Audrey Russo of Santa Cruz, Calif.; a brother, John Judy Marrie of Tennessee; 10 grandchildren, Renee Frank Waldo, William Smith, Brad Melissa Payne, Brian Payne, Jennifer, Christopher, James, Heather, Meghan, and Kevin; and 22 great-grandchildren.
Stephen was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, William J. and Stephen M. Marrie; five sisters, Helen Schabel, Patricia Buzard, Virginia McConnell, Ruth Noreen Mickler and Barbara J. Mermis; and an infant brother, James Marrie.
Family and friends may call Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
