YOUNGSTOWN - Funeral services will be held Friday at 7 p.m. at Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel for Stephen J. Vesilko, 91, who passed away Tuesday evening at Meridian Arms.
Stephen was born April 10, 1920, in Pittsburgh, the son of the late Andrew and Mary Dranchak Vasilko.
Stephen served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a crane man for Hynes Industries for 21 years, retiring in 1982 and then drove school bus for the city of Youngstown for about 13 years. He was a former member of the Grace Lutheran Church. He was a member of the Austintown Eagles No. 3298, the St. George Croation Center and was a former member of the Teamsters Local 377. Stephen enjoyed trips to Hartville Kitchen, playing the lottery and golf.
His first wife, the former Alice McManus, whom he married in 1946, passed away in 1975 and his second wife, the former Elizabeth Wasmund whom he married Nov. 7, 1975, passed away July 11, 1991.
Stephen leaves a daughter, Bonnie Price of Houston; a step son, Edward A. Wasmund of Kenosha, Wis.; two sisters, Virginia Hawkey of Oakland, Calif., and Dorothy Vasilko of Vandergrift, Pa.; a brother, William Vasilko of W. Leechburg, Pa.; three grandchildren; his great-grandchildren; and his friend and guardian, Cindy DiMuzio.
Stephen was also preceded in death by a daughter, Kathy Sharp; five sisters, Agnes Connor, Mary Clegg, Elizabeth Chippman, Veronica Vicenti, Margaret Corrigan; and two brothers, Michael and John Vasilko.
Family and friends may call Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home, where an Eagles Service will be held at 6:30 p.m.
