POLAND - Prayers will begin Wednesday morning at 9:15 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Poland Chapel followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Church, St. Angela Merici Parish for Steve J. Yanek, 83, who died early Saturday morning at Masternick Memorial.
Steve was born July 20, 1930, in Youngstown, the son of John S. and Mary (Tabus) Yanek.
He was a 1949 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School and attended Youngstown College.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was stationed in Panama. He was a member of the church.
Steve worked at the Youngstown Sheet and Tube Corporation in transportation until its closing. He then began a career in property protection, retiring in 1985.
He is survived by his wife, the former Margaret "Peggy" Kennedy, whom he married Aug. 8, 1953; a daughter, Mary Beth (John) Stride of Poland; a son, Steve J. (Edie) Yanek Jr. of Boiling Springs, Pa.; a brother, John (Helen) Yanek of Salem; and four grandchildren, Jessica, Emily, Johnny and Matt.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Michael A. and Francis P. Yanek.
Friends may call on Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Poland Chapel.
