YOUNGSTOWN - Prayers will begin Monday at 9:30 AM at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Poland Chapel, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10:00 AM at St. Matthias Church for Steven J. Krupa, 89, who died Thursday afternoon at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Youngstown.
Steven was born October 7, 1924, in McDonald, to John and Mary Krupa.
He attended East High School and served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. Steven was awarded five Bronze Service Stars for serving in Normandy, Northern France, Central Europe, Rhineland and Ardennes. In 1950, he was appointed to the Youngstown Fire Department as a firefighter, promoted to engineer in 1961, and became a captain on January 1, 1975. He retired from the fire department in 1982 after nearly 33 years of service.
Steven was a member of the Youngstown Professional Firefighters Union.
He enjoyed fishing and gardening, and most of all, the time spent at home with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Steven is survived by his wife, the former Olga A. Hudak, whom he married September 7, 1946; his daughter Joan (Jack) Gocala of Poland; two grandchildren, Dr. Mary Joanna McIntyre of Austintown and John (Kristen) Gocala Jr. of Boardman; and four great grandchildren, Aiden and Jacqueline McIntyre and Isabelle and Jack Gocala.
He was preceded in death by his son Steven Krupa; a sister Ann Cabloski; and a brother Joseph Krupa.
Family and friends may call Sunday from 4 to 6 PM at the funeral home.
