YOUNGSTOWN - A funeral service will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel for Mr. Theodore "Ted" C. Gabler, 81, who died Sunday morning at St. Elizabeth Health Center, surrounded by his family.
Ted was born Aug. 22, 1935, in Youngstown, a son of Theodore W. and Margaret (Payne) Gabler.
He was a 1954 graduate of Chaney High School and was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church.
Ted retired in 1996 from Conrail Railroad as a yardmaster. He was a member and past president of the Railroad Golf and Bowling League. Ted coached little league baseball, football , basketball and for the Ursuline High School bowling team. He liked to fish and enjoyed watching all sports especially all the Cleveland teams and Ohio State.
The greatest enjoyment in Ted's life was being with his family. Ted married the love of his life, the former Norine Shelley, on June 18, 1955.
He leaves his wife, Norine; two daughters, Heidi A. (Dr. David) Hoffman of Canfield and Shelley Gabler of Youngstown; two sons, Teddy J. (Linda) Gabler of Youngstown and Jeffrey (Nikki) Gabler of Ponte Vedra, Fla.; two sisters, Agnes Gabler of Youngstown and Carlene Kolesar of Toledo; six grandchildren, Ted P. (Kelli) Gabler, Bryan (fiancée Josie DiPiero) Gabler, Kristofer Hoffman, Ashley L. Gabler, Rob (Amanda) Hoffman and Jennifer (Tim) Mundorf; six great-grandchildren, Blake and Faith Gabler, RJ and Taylor Hoffman, Ben and Sam Mundorf; and several nieces and nephews.
Ted was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Helen Stevens.
Friends may call Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. and Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
