AUSTINTOWN - Funeral services will be held Saturday at noon at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel, for Theodore “Ted” Glass, 86, who died peacefully Tuesday afternoon at St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital surrounded by his family.
He was born July 2, 1932, in Johnstown, Pa., the son of Charles and Mildred (Oaks) Glass.
Ted was a 1950 graduate of Punxsutawney High School, where he excelled in football and earned All-State Defensive Tackle, while often referred to as “Ted the Giant.” He also was a member of the high school band.
Ted was a lover of all sports, especially Ohio State football and the Cleveland Browns. Because of his love and interest for music, he joined with his father, the “Club Quintette Band.” In his spare time, he enjoyed photography, but most of all, the time he spent with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He retired from General Motors in 1999 after 33 years. Ted was also a veteran of the U.S. Army, and served his country during the Korean War.
Ted’s wife, the former Rosemary F. Kalmer, whom he married Dec. 14, 1952, died July 13, 2004.
He is survived by his daughters, Roselyn Evans of Carrollton, Ga. and Jacklyn (John) Brace of Austintown; four grandchildren, Lindsay (Mark) Adair, Christopher Brace, Justin Wright and Joshua Wright; and three great-grandchildren, Aria, Michaela, and Noah.
Ted was also preceded in death by his parents and sister Ethel DeLadurantey Stryffeler.
Family and friends may call for one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
