POLAND - A Panachida service will be held Tuesday at 10:15 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Poland Chapel, followed by a Divine Liturgy at 11 a.m. at St. Michael Byzantine Church, officiated by Father Kevin Marks, for Theresa Martha Mochtyak, 83, who died Friday afternoon at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown.
Theresa was born Oct. 19, 1931, in Youngstown, the daughter of Andrew and Mary (Toth) Zofie.
She was a 1949 graduate of Wilson High School and worked at Medallion Financial as a book keeper for 30 years, until her retirement in 2012.
Theresa was a very active member of St. Michael Byzantine Church. She enjoyed playing Bingo, slot machines, golfing, and spending time with family and friends.
Theresa's husband, Joseph Mochtyak, whom she married Oct. 17, 1953, died Nov. 23, 2008.
Theresa is survived by three daughters, Terrie J. Price of Pompano Beach, Fla., Linda S. (Jack) Evans of Youngstown, and Sharon M. Mochtyak of Youngstown; two sons, Daniel J. (Sheri) Mochtyak of Poland and Leonard G. (Nancy) Mochtyak of Poland; a sister, Olga Wiggins of Amarillo, Texas; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Helen, Elizabeth and Matilda Zofie; and three brothers, Frank, Andrew and William Zofie.
Family and friends may call on Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
The family has requested that material tributes take the form of donations to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market St., Boardman, OH 44512.
