CANFIELD - Prayers will be held Thursday at 9:15 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Boardman-Canfield Chapel, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Michael Church for Thomas M. Defino Sr., 84, who passed away early Sunday morning at Shepherd of the Valley Boardman.
"Tom" was born May 2, 1932, in Braddock, Pa., a son of the late Michael and Catherine (Malovich) Defino.
Tom received a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from Duquesne University. He retired from American Welding as an industrial engineer. He was also a former member of St. Michael's parish council, former president of Sand Dunes Shores Resort, and a member of the Antique Automobile Club of America. Tom was also scout leader and founding father of Troop 115 and enjoyed coaching little league when his sons were younger.
Tom is survived by his wife, the former Trudy J. Dempsky, whom he married Aug. 11, 1958; a daughter, Patricia (Andrew) Johnstone of Martinsville, Ind.; two sons, Thomas M. (Joan) Defino II of Sterling, Va. and Kenneth J. (Mary Pat) Defino of Canfield; seven grandchildren, Rebecca, Christina, Hunter, Madeline, Stephen, Diana and Kathleen; seven great-grandchildren, Brooklyn, Jay, Aubrey, Elena, McKenzie, Michael and Riley; and a sister, Judy Melvin of Oakmont, Pa.
Family and friends may call Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
