Thomas Desmond Jr

MINERAL RIDGE - Prayers will be held Monday at 9:30 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church for Thomas Joseph Desmond Jr., 53, who passed away early Tuesday morning at St. Elizabeth Health Center with his family by his side.

Tom was born July 15, 1957, in Youngstown, the son of the late Thomas Joseph and Anna Ruth Stanovak Desmond Sr.

Tom graduated from Austintown Fitch High School in 1975 and went on to work at Mahoning Lighting and Maintenance, where he proudly worked for 31 years. From there he went on to manage the VFW Post 4192 in Mineral Ridge.

Tom was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge No. 186 in Warren, the VFW Post 4192 and the Electrical Union. He was an avid outdoors-man and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed shooting pool, fish fry's, participating in the chain gang and coaching baseball in the Mineral Ridge community. His greatest love was for his sons, family and friends. He will be deeply missed.

Tom leaves his two sons, Thomas Joseph Desmond III and John Thomas Desmond, both of Youngstown; his five sisters, Ruth Ann Bob Sutton of Austintown, Dorothy Jean Pete Getch of Boardman, Barbara Sue Butch Akins of Austintown, Mary Jo Jim Liberty of Austintown and Theresa Lynn Lyden of Austintown; his former wife, Connie Coombs of Youngstown; numerous nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Tom's final act was to give the gift of life through organ donation.

Family and friends may call Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. and Monday from 9 to 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
