BOARDMAN - A memorial Mass will be held Saturday, Nov. 3, at 11 a.m. at St. Charles Borromao Catholic Church for Thomas J. McCarthy, 85, formerly of Pittsburgh and The Villages in Florida, who died Tuesday afternoon at the Victoria House.

"Tom" was born May 22, 1927, in Pittsburgh, the son of Joseph and Agnes Hartwick McCarthy.

He had served in the Coast Guard during World War II and later worked as a printer for numerous companies in the Pittsburgh area before retiring. He was a member of St. Charles Church.

His wife, the former Betty Hawes, whom he married June 27, 1950, died May 8, 2010.
He is survived by a daughter, Mary Beth McCarthy of Erie, Pa.; two sons, Thomas J. Karen McCarthy Jr. of Boardman and Joseph D. Dalal McCarthy of Fayetteville, Pa.; and three grandchildren, Robin Peterson, Cory Jing Min Peterson of Brooklyn, N.Y. and Suzanne McCarthy of Columbus.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jim McCarthy.

Friends may call Saturday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at St. Charles Church.

The McCarthy family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the administration, staff, nurses and aids of Victoria House for their kind and loving attention for Tom and Betty over the past three years, and to Hospice of the Valley for the compassionate ministry they provide to families at such an important and emotional time.

The family has requested that material tributes take the form of donations to Hospice of the Valley in Tom's memory.
