AUSTINTOWN — Thomas A. Miller, 68, died peacefully with his children by his side, Thursday, Feb. 24, 2022, in St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.
Thomas was born Jan. 26, 1954, in Youngstown, the son of Harold “Duff” and Shirley Ruble Miller.
He was a 1972 graduate of Austintown Fitch High School. He worked with the local elevator union as an elevator mechanic his entire career until he retired. He loved to tell stories about the buildings he had put elevators in over the many years of his career.
In his spare time, Thomas enjoyed riding dirt bikes and motorcycles, and was formerly a member of the Western Reserve Motorcycle Club in Salem. He really loved coaching. Thomas coached Austintown Little Falcons Football for many years and influenced the lives of lots of kids for many years. He also loved Austintown Community Baseball and coached it for many years, even after his own sons had gone through both sports. He truly loved helping people and instilling the love of the game and life into the boys he coached.
Above all, Thomas loved being with his family, especially his grandchildren. Anyone that knew “Grandpa Miller” knew he was the first to be at every game, watching them, coaching them from the sidelines, and offering his help before, during and after the games. Being there to watch his grandkids was what he loved most.
Thomas is survived by his sons, Thomas (Tamara) Miller of Austintown and Matthew (Kimberly) Miller of Austintown; daughter, Stacey Miller of Youngstown; brothers, Gary (Jean) Miller of Austintown and Ronald Miller of Austintown; and five grandchildren, Ariana, Casey, Blake, Madelyn and Cobie.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service will be held from 1:30 to 5 p.m. Sunday, March 20, 2022, at Stacy Pavilion in Austintown Township Park, 6000 Kirk Road, Austintown, OH 44515.
Professional arrangements were handled by the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel.
