CANFIELD ? Thomas Joseph Philibin Jr., 91, died Saturday afternoon at St. Elizabeth Health Center surrounded by his family.
Thomas was born Nov. 3, 1918 in Youngstown to the late Thomas J. and Mary Anderson Philibin.
Thomas graduated from South High School in 1936. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in World War II.
Thomas was a charter member of St. Christine Church, and sang in the choir many years ago. He volunteered at church, as well as helping during the construction of the school. He sang in many Barbershop Quartets, and was a member of the Youngstown Elks. After retirement, he spent his time volunteering for the American Red Cross and St. Vincent DePaul Society.
Thomas retired in 1980 from the Prudential Insurance Company with over 31 years as a salesman.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Jane Philibin and Mary Gerst.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, the former Claire Shriver, and they were married on Oct. 7, 1944; two daughters, Ann John Smith of Lisbon and Meredith Lorrin of Aurora, Ill.; two sons, Paul Lynne Philibin of Toledo and Gary Sally Philibin of Boardman; four grandchildren, Leslie Chenoweth, Megan Corbett, Noelle Saulnier and Douglas Philibin; great-grandchildren, Eleanor Chenoweth and Sedona, Jack, Max and Sophia Saulnier. He also leaves two sisters, Helen Grady of Boardman and Nancy Riordan of Hubbard; and a brother, Bernard Delores Philibin of Poland.
Friends may call Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Boardman-Canfield Chapel.
Funeral services will be announced in the Tuesday edition.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the St. Jude?s Children?s Research Hospital.
Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.
