AUSTINTOWN Prayers will be held Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. at Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Brendan¹s Church for Thomas R. Evans, 54, who passed away Friday morning at Hospice House.
Tom was born Jan. 29, 1955, in Youngstown, the son of James B. and Rosemary M. Maley Evans.
Tom was a 1973 graduate of Ursuline High School, then in 1979 graduated from YSU with an associate degree, and later in 1998, graduated from Penn State
with a bachelors degree. He was a retired Air Force Reservist, serving in the Persian Gulf. Tom was ranked as a Major and received the Meritorious Service Medal and the Air Force Commendation Medal. He also served in Desert Storm in 1991.
Tom worked at Forum Health Northside Medical Center for 30 years. He was an assistant clinical nurse manager in surgery. He was a member of the Ohio Nurses Association, Youngstown General Duty Nurses Association, and the Reserve Officers Association. Tom was also a softball coach and board member for the Austintown Girls Softball League for 12 years.
Tom leaves his wife, the former Rosemarie Henze, whom he married Nov. 2, 1985; two daughters, Jessica L. Evans and Rebecca R. Evans, both at home; two sisters, Kathleen Frank Gradski of Arizona and Betsy Chris Langolf of Omaha; and a brother, James B. Shirley Evans of Arizona.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Dorothy Mehle.
Friends may call Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 9 to 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
