CINCINNATI - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 1 p.m. at the St. Columba Cathedral, officiated by the Rev. Msgr. Peter Polando, preceded by a 12:15 p.m. prayer service at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel, for Mr. Thomas Joseph Ridel Sr., 78, who died Tuesday evening at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati, surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Ridel was born on Nov. 4, 1937, in Warren, son of Frank and Margaret (Colleran) Ridel.
Thomas was a graduate of Youngstown's Ursuline High School. After graduation, Thomas enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, having served his country from Nov. 4, 1953 to Nov. 3, 1958. He later worked for the Federal Civil Service, in positions attached to the U.S. Air Force. Thomas, an avid golfer, gardener, and artist, also loved horses, having owned seven in his lifetime.
Thomas will be sadly missed by his six children, Suzanne Ridel, Lorie Chiles, Ann Marie Kirk, Michael Ridel, John J. Ridel, and Thomas Ridel Jr.; two sisters, Margaret Collins and Cathy Price; one brother, John Ridel; cousin Maureen Quinn; nine grandchildren, Elizabeth, Tanner, Olivia, Rowan, Corrine, Samantha, Porter, Mary, and Michael; and two great-grandsons, Logan and Lincoln.
Besides his parents, Frank and Margaret Ridel, Thomas was preceded in death by his brother, Frank E. Ridel.
Family and friends will be received on Monday from 10 a.m. until 12:15 p.m. at the funeral home.
Interment will take place at Resurrection Cemetery in Austintown, with full military honors given by the great men of the Ellsworth VFW.
