YOUNGSTOWN - Following a lengthy period of declining health, Thomas E. Shultz passed away on Thursday, Sept. 21, at Omni Manor Nursing Facility, with his loving family at his side.
He was born in Wellsville, one of four children to John and Ohma Shultz, where he was raised. "Tom" later moved to East Liverpool, where he made his home for several years until moving to the Youngstown area with his spouse, Sherri, where they have resided since 1991.
Tom graduated from Wellsville High School in 1951, where he was an active player on the basketball and football teams. As a veteran of the Korean War, he served as an airman first class in the U.S. Naval Air Force from 1952 to 1954. After being honorably discharged, he returned to the area to raise his family and begin his career in the work force.
Tom had numerous careers throughout his life such as deputy sheriff of Hancock County, W.Va., electrician for 33 years at the Crucible Steel Corporation in Midland, Pa., and retired from the Bio-Medical department of Potters Medical Center in East Liverpool in 1995.
Tom loved spending time with family and friends, vacationing at the beach or lake, music, dancing, golfing, riding motorcycles, and trapshooting. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 6450 in Chester, W.Va. and the Columbiana County Fish and Game Club.
In addition to his loving wife, Sherri, whom he married April 12, 1993, Tom leaves a son, Ricky T. Shultz (Kim McConnell); a daughter, Robin R. (Donald) Zielinsky, both of East Liverpool; a daughter, Joelle S. (Robert) Keys-Pratali of Reynoldsburg; a son, Timothy S. Keys (Dee Bowers) of East Liverpool; 14 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Tom and Sherri were proud to be husband and wife and living their dreams filled with the kind of love and happiness everyone hopes for their family. His physical presence will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him, but his spirit will live on forever.
In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his sister, Maxine R. McDowell; and two brothers, Donald Shultz and Robert Shultz.
Tom's family would like to extend a special thanks to the wonderful staff of Hospice of the Valley, Hospice House, and Omni Manor for their compassion and care.
At Tom's request, there will be no formal services. A celebration of Tom's life will be held for family members and close friends at a time to be later determined.
Contributions may be made to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market St., Youngstown, OH 44512.
"To my Thomas - I'm glad I didn't miss the dance."
