BESSEMER, PA. - Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Poland Chapel for Vera M. Carletti, 88, who passed away Thursday morning at Covington Skilled Nursing.
Vera was born June 1, 1924, in Canton, a daughter of the late Merle and Dorothy C. (Spangler) Madrid.
Vera resided in Bessemer, Pa. since the end of World War II in which she served as a Navy Corps Man in the Pentagon and other Duty stations. She graduated from Poland Seminary High School, where she was a cheerleader and all around good student. Vera loved to cook and bake for family and friends forever. She especially loved the holidays, Christmas in particular, the shopping, the buying, and the spirit of the Christmas holiday, along with all birthdays, Thanksgiving, Easter, etc.
Vera loved to play scrabble, especially with sister Arleen "Myrt," and cards, years ago with friend Midge Yardas, longest and dear friend Bette Madrid (wife of brother Merle), also Jane Bloomberg, Joanne Battiger, Mary Ann Ohlin and so many others.
Vera especially loved to travel to Florida in the 1950s and Hollywood, Fla. to see old friend from Poland, Jane Bloomberg. She also enjoyed three day drives with her family, Great Times! She loved to work around the house, flower garden, vegetable garden and cook fresh from the garden. She was always on the go, from morning to night and would help anyone who needed a hand. Vera cooked for them if sick, etc. and she was very opinionated at all stages of her life.
Vera leaves her husband of over 70 years, Reno "Roy" Carletti, whom she married Aug. 15, 1942; two children, Randall A. (Shirley Rodkey) Carletti of Columbiana and Royanne (Lonnie) Carletti McClearn of New Springfield; five grandchildren, Randi N. Carletti, Ryan A. Carletti, Lindsay McClearn Moser, Megan McClearn Leone, and David (Crystal) McClearn; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Arleen Madrid Martin of Bessemer, Pa.; and a brother, Merle L. Madrid of Poland.
Vera was also preceded in death by a brother, Paul Madrid.
Family and friends may call Saturday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Material tributes may take the form of donations to Hospice of the Valley.
