MARIETTA, GA. - There will be a memorial service at 10 a.m. on May 23, 2015, at the Christ Church Presbyterian for Vera F. Davis, who passed away Jan. 9, 2015, in Marietta.
She was born Jan. 4, 1919, in Washingtonville, a daughter of Harry and Helen Marie Calvin Grindle.
She was a graduate of Canfield High School and was a member of the girls basketball team. She helped work the large family farm side-by-side with her father and mother, and then went on to work for the Kroger Co., before marrying the love of her life, Robert S. Davis, on April 8, 1938. Together, they raised two children. She enjoyed crossword puzzles and loved a challenging game of Scrabble.
Vera was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert; and a sister, Phyllis J. Cashon.
Vera is survived by her children, Kathleen J. (Robert) Fedorchak of Marietta and Robert W. (Judy) Davis of Boardman; her grandchildren, Robert A. Davis of Youngstown, Jill Marie Davis of Warren and Deborah J. Fedorchak and Vera Lynn (Mathew) Wenzel of Woodstock, Ga.; nieces Linda (Cashon) Carlile and Debra (Cashon) Kline; and a nephew, James Cashon, all of Florida.
Friends may call at 9:30 a.m., prior to the 10 a.m. service.
Her family requests that material tributes take the form of contributions in her name to the church memorial fund.
Interment will take place at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
