Vernon Thistlewaite

YOUNGSTOWN- Funeral services will be held on Friday at 1 p.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel for Vernon D. Thistlewaite Jr., 83, who passed away Saturday evening at Windsor House of Canfield.

Vernon was born Feb. 13, 1935, in Youngstown, a son of the late Vernon D. and Gladys (Weimer) Thistlewaite Sr.

Vernon attended The Rayen School and worked at Republic Steel as a stationary engineer. His favorite hobbies were railroads, especially railroad photography, and walking. He was also a great fan of the Steelers.

Vernon leaves his wife, Emalou; a daughter, Lisa Rabi of Tipp City; two sons, Vernon Thistelwaite of Youngstown and David Thistlewaite of Youngstown; seven grandchildren, Samantha, Rashad, Shadi, James, Vernon, Aaron and David Jr.; two sisters, Audrey Steigner of New Port Richey, Fla. and Patsy L. Moffo of Stoneboro, Pa.; a brother, Harry (Olivia) Thistlewaite of Las Vegas; and many nieces and nephews.

Vernon was also preceded in death by a daughter, Anne B. Thistlewaite and a sister, Jean Nuth.

Family and friends may call Friday from noon to 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

The family would like to offer a special thanks to the nurses and the entire staff at Windsor House of Canfield and the Harbor Light Hospice for the kindness and love shown and special care given to Vernon during his stay.
