Victor Mohl

CANFIELD - Victor Charles Mohl, 89, was born July 6, 1927.

He made his home with his daughter, Carol Sicilia. He died April 8, 2017, at home, with his daughter by his side.

Victor was born in Pittsburgh, the son of Victor George and Marie (Jufer) Mohl. His parents were born in Switzerland.

He was married for 61 years to his wife, Kathleen (Hanzas) Mohl whom he married on Valentine's Day 1953. She predeceased him Dec. 13, 2014. He was also predeceased by his sister, Lucille Cesari; brothers William and Rene Mohl; and his brother-in-law, Thomas P. Hanzas.

He leaves sons Peter and Thomas Mohl.

Victor was a World War II veteran and served honorably in the U.S. Navy. He had an opportunity to attend West Point, but instead chose to stay closer to home because of his widowed, beloved mother. He went on to the University of Virginia, where he enjoyed an illustrious career in basketball. He was a celebrated player who received many awards and widespread recognition.

He and his wife, Kathleen, moved with their family to Ohio in 1961 and, eventually, settled in Canfield. He was district manager for Iron City Sash and Door Company. He served as president of the Canfield School Board. He gave many years of service to the Canfield Athletic Department.

During his retirement, he pursued multiple business interests and spent much of his time helping people in need.

"My father was a shining example of love, patience, kindness, and forgiveness. He possessed a rich sense of humor, was incredibly positive, and amazingly resilient. Watching him decline, it was indicative of who my father was that never, once, did he complain. He faced the end of his life with a quiet resolve, his faith in God that gave testimony to abiding inner strength, heroic courage, and dignity full of grace. I was struck by his graciousness toward everyone who came to our home to visit him. As ill as he was, he illuminated and elevated everyone around him. He carried an integral warmth and respect for humanity that endeared him to all who knew him. His spirit was infectious, engaging, full of light, and good will. We shared a deep bond, a wonderful friendship, and a joy for life. He leaves me with a tapestry of memories that will always remain alive, and a pathway to emulate as I go forward. It was a gift to be his daughter. It was a privilege to honor my father and care for him. I will profoundly miss him until we meet again. Rest in peace, my dearest and most precious Dad."

The dedicated women and men who took tender care of my father and paid such loving attention to him enhanced his life. I offer my deepest gratitude to all of you. Every winter Dad would talk about springtime looking forward to spending spring days and summer months on the patio. He loved the baskets of flowers, the food, Ron's soups, and his cigar. Your attention to him, concern for him, and the respect you always gave him was such a joy for me to watch evolve over the years. My appreciation to Don, Ron, Danielle, the staff and all the patrons who embraced my father and mother over the past many years. I value each of you, and I am forever grateful. A special thank you to Carlin Hanzas. Your faith filled love and support spoke volumes to your beautiful heart and blessed soul. You remained a steadfast comfort to Mother and Dad. You are treasured.

My special thanks to Kathi Navarro. Your friendship provided special meaning to everything. You were the lighthouse and the beacon of hope. The anchor you provided had a heart that knew no boundaries. Mother and Dad trusted you, counted on you, and loved you as I do. My dear Angela Miner, your star shines brightest among the heavens. Mother said she knew you were an angel. Dad would always say you were golden. Your unselfish giving left my parents with a full heart. Our love and gratitude is timeless.

And most special, Jaclyn Sicilia, his beloved granddaughter. Your life-long devotion, dedication, love, and attention was a well-spring of happiness for your grandfather. You brought endless joy to him, and made sure he knew how much you cherished him. Your enduring relationship with your Granddad is eternal. You were the sustaining light in the lives of your grandparents. A beautiful portrait of you hangs in their hearts in the glory of heaven.

A celebration is planned to honor my father's life.
