YOUNGSTOWN - Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Boardman-Canfield Chapel for Violet L. Thomas, 93, who passed away Friday morning at Omni Manor.
Violet was born Aug. 12, 1918, in Youngstown, the daughter of the late Ellis W. and Leona Powell Burrows.
Violet graduated from Scienceville High School in 1936. She was very active in various churches throughout her life and was currently a member of the Zion Lutheran Church. In her younger years, she was very active baking home made pies and preparing dinners in the kitchen of the church for different organizations within the church.
Violet loved music and started singing in the church choir at the age of 12. She loved playing the piano and could play any song that was requested of her. She also loved planting flowers and gardening. Violet loved her family and was always very supportive of her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren bragging of their accomplishments any chance she got.
Her husband, Willard A. Thomas, whom she married in December of 1938, passed away Jan. 12, 2001.
Violet leaves her daughter, Ruth Jim Anderson of Boardman; a sister, Roslyn Gold of Youngstown; a brother, Robert Janice Burrows of Hubbard; three grandchildren, Lynn Bob Wittmann of Canfield, David Anderson of Canfield and Brad Anderson of Boardman; and three great-grandchildren, Michael, Marissa, and Mark Wittmann.
Violet was also preceded in death by a daughter, Alice Jayne Thomas; two sisters, Vera Harry and Sharlotte Eisenbraun; and three brothers, Willard "Sonny" Burrows, Arthur "Moony" Burrows, and Powell "Bud" Burrows.
Family and friends may call Tuesday from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Material tributes may take the form of donations to the Second Harvest Food Bank or The Diabetes Association.
