Virginia Graneto

July 16, 1928 — May 3, 2015

NORTH LIMA - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday morning at 10 a.m. for Virginia Helen Graneto, of Marian Living Center, formerly of Boardman, passed away early Sunday morning, May 3, 2015, the day of her wedding anniversary.

She was born on July 16, 1928, in Batesville, Ind., to William L. Nordmeyer and Elizabeth (Ries) Nordmeyer. She grew up in Morris, Ind., and attended Oldenburg Academy, where she was known as "Nordie."

Virginia was a proud alumnus of the Marian College and had remained in touch with a group of her dear college friends for 69 years! Her early career after college included working as an accountant for the General Motors Corporation. She went on to serve as bookkeeper/treasurer for Graneto Chiropractic Inc., until 2011.

While in Indiana, she met and then married her husband on Derby Day in 1952. They lived in Cleveland until 1959, and moved to Boardman, where she raised her family. Her husband, Dr. Donald A. Graneto, passed away Nov. 14, 1993.

Virginia was active in the St. Charles Church and School as Parish council president, Eucharistic minister, homebound minister, Ladies Guild, and Ladies Bowling League. She was a democratic election precinct judge, a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 3144 Auxiliary, where she served as president and the Eastern Ohio Chiropractic Society Auxiliary.

She was an avid bridge player, enjoying the game with several groups in the area. In the summertime, one could be sure to find Virginia at a local golf course swinging that nine iron, at the Boardman Tennis and Swim Club, swinging her racket or under the tree with that infamous bridge group. Winters would find her at the Boardman Tennis Club or swinging that ball at Camelot Bowling Lanes. A crochet, knitting or embroidery needle usually was not far from her reach. Virginia will be remembered for her sense of humor and wit that never quit! She loved her God, family and chocolate, enjoyed life and cherished her neighbors and friends.

She leaves to cherish her memory, Dr. James J. (Lora) of Canfield, David A. of Pepper Pike, Dr. John W. (D. J. Reali) of Chicago, and Donna E. (Michael) Jones of Hillsborough, N.C.; and eight grandchildren, Dr. Donald of Austin, Texas, Colleen of Chicago, Michelle of Kirtland, Adam of Pepper Pike, Cara of East Haven, Conn., Aaron of Canfield and Gregory and Bryan Jones of Hillsborough, N.C. She also leaves three brothers, John Richard (Ruth) Nordmeyer, Donald (Tillie) Nordmeyer of Cincinnati and Rev. Emeric Nordmeyer OFM of New Mexico; sisters-in-law Carol Nordmeyer of Dayton, Laverne Graneto of Youngstown and Frances Granito of Canfield; as well as many nieces; nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews across the country.

Preceding her in death were her parents; a brother, Lt. Col. James Nordmeyer USAF; daughter-in-law Cynthia Graneto; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law James and Helen Granito, Dr. Joseph and Jenny Graneto, Frank and Eleanor Graneto, Patrick and Dolly Graneto, Laura (Graneto) and Edward Wondisford, Dr. Charles Granito, Dr. John Graneto and Alice (Graneto) and Walter Roshetsky.

The family would like to thank Dr. Armand Minotti and Prima Health Care, the staff at Comfort Keepers, Marian Living Center, Assumption Center and St. Elizabeth Health Center, who assisted with the care of Virginia for the last several years.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Charles Borromeo Church, Boardman, Marian College, Indianapolis, or charity of choice.

Friends may call Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Boardman-Canfield Chapel, 3701 Starr's Centre Drive, Canfield, and Saturday morning from 9 to 9:45 a.m. at St. Charles Church.
