AUSTINTOWN - Virginia "Ginnie" Ann Miller, 88, passed away peacefully on Feb. 1, at her home, surrounded by family.
Born in Youngstown on Sept. 9, 1928, she was a daughter of Michael John Miller and Anna Janosik Miller.
Ginnie was a lifelong Youngstown resident and 1946 graduate of Chaney High School.
She worked at US Steel Corporation as secretary to the manager of Accounting, and later as a cost analyst, retiring when the plant shut down in 1982.
She was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Sorrows Parish, Holy Name Church, where she was a CCD instructor in the early 1960s, a member of its Altar and Rosary Society, and a past member of its Senior Citizens Club, until it disbanded, serving as its secretary from 1998 to 2008. She was a member of several other local senior citizen groups, until they also later disbanded.
Over the years she enjoyed swimming at Bort's Pool and Rose Lake, ice skating on Lake Glacier, picnicking in Mill Creek Park, dancing at the Idora Park Ballroom, visiting Fellows Riverside Gardens, bowling, golfing, and traveling to the Holy Land in 1970, and to Hope Town in the Bahamas in 1989.
She especially loved annual family vacations at Reno's Cabins on Lake Milton. More recently, she enjoyed various casinos, playing 500 with family, bingo, and cultivating a vegetable garden on her deck. She most enjoyed family gatherings, preserving the memories by taking pictures and keeping photo albums through all the years.
She is survived by two brothers, Hubert (Eleanor) of Boardman and Richard of Austintown; 15 beloved nieces and nephews; and their children. Her nephew, Rick was her devoted caregiver.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant sister, Eleanor; a sister-in-law Sandra; three nephews, her godson, Gary, Kenneth, and Brian Miller; and a nephew-in-law, Al D'Angelantonio.
Her family lovingly remembers her for her perpetual and unconditional love, support and encouragement. She always saw the best in everyone. She never grew old, and never lost hope in hitting the jackpot.
There will be no calling hours.
