Virginia Reedy

AUSTINTOWN - Prayers will begin Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Church for Virginia M. Reedy, 81, who died Sunday morning at Hospice House, surrounded by her family.
Virginia "Ginny" was born May 19, 1935, in Youngstown, the daughter of William H. and Helene (Stofko) Reapsummer.
She was a 1953 graduate of South High School and a 1956 graduate of St. Elizabeth Nursing School. Virginia worked as a registered nurse at St. Elizabeth Hospital for 41 years until retiring in 1997.
Virginia was a charter member of St. Joseph Church, a member of the Ladies Guild, Seton Club, Saxon Club, and a longtime member of a card club with friends since high school.
She was an avid baseball fan, and especially enjoyed watching the Cleveland Indians or listening to the games while she worked in her rose garden. During winter, she waited for summer.
Virginia's husband, Thomas F. Reedy, whom she married Jan. 24, 1959, died Nov. 28, 1996.
She is survived by three sons, Thomas F. Reedy II of Youngstown, William J. (Elizabeth) Reedy of Jeffersonville, Ind., and David A. Reedy of Chaska, Minn.; and two grandchildren, Jaclyn E. Reedy and John W. Reedy.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents.
Family and friends may call Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that material tributes take the form of donations to the St. Vincent DePaul Society, P.O. Box 224, Youngstown, OH 44501, or to Hospice House, 9803 SharrotT Road, Poland, OH 44514.
