DELAND, FLA. - A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel for Mrs. Virginia Rose Zucco Schialdone, 101 years young, who went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Nov. 26, 2017, with her daughter and granddaughter at her side.
She was married to MSG Patrick William Schialdone for 56 years, living in the Youngstown area. Virginia then came to live with her loving family in Florida following her husbands death in 1999 where she remained until her passing.
Prior to her marriage, she worked at United Engineering on the 105mm Howitzer assembly line fulfilling her duty to her country during World War II. While in Youngstown, she was involved in many local organizations, such as ITAMS, VFW and volunteering at Brecksville VA hospital. During her life, in both Ohio and Florida, she brought joy to all who met her.
She lived life to the fullest, dancing until a matter of days before her death. When asked what her favorite thing in the world was, she would reply with a big smile "CHOCOLATE!"
While her daughter, Betty Rae Fritzinger, and granddaughter, Tracey Rae Fritzinger (both of Florida), will miss her, they are grateful to God for allowing her to remain with them for so long. "We delight in knowing she was welcomed to heaven, and a big Italian style party complete with big band music, by her husband, Pat; parents Nanny (Angeline) and Poppy (George); and siblings and spouses, Joe and Virginia, Frank and Inez, Ray, Dorothy and Tommy."
Friends may call Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home followed by the interment at Calvary Cemetery.
