AUSTINTOWN - Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel for Mrs. Virginia Swartzlander, 79, who died Friday morning at St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center.
She was born April 6, 1933, in Oil City, Pa., a daughter of Grover and Ruth Confer McClinsey.
Virginia retired from Steel City as a foreman in 1993 and was a member of the Grace Church of The Nazarene. Her favorite thing to do was to go camping at Anglers Rest Campground in Pennsylvania with her husband. She also enjoyed playing bingo at St. Mary's Hall on Belle Vista Avenue.
Virginia was married to Gerald "Zeke" Swartzlander, who she married Feb. 18, 1955, and who died May 1 , 2012.
She leaves four daughters, Charlotte Swartzlander and Patti (John) DeCenso, both of Austintown, Jimene (Tom Evans) Wilson of Canfield and Connie (Jim) Cross of Austintown; a son, Willy (Debra) Swartzlander of Washington, Pa. ; sister Esther Bell of Titusville, Pa.; 16 grandchildren, including grandma's little boy, Jason Cross; 20 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three sisters, Doris Watson, Katherine Dunkle and Ruby Baumgardner; a brother, Earl Baumgardner; and a great-grandson.
Virginia's family would like to thank the wonderful staff at St. Elizabeth's for the care and compassion that was shown to their mom.
Friends may call call on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
