CANFIELD — Virginia L. “Ginger” Antonoff Thompson, 83, died Saturday, April 12, 2025.
Ginger was born July 14, 1941, in Youngstown, the daughter of Anton Antonoff and the former Theresa Haus.
She attended Chaney High School and was a member of St. Christine Church. Ginger was a passionate dancer. Together with her brother, Mickey, they took their talents on the road, performing ballet, tap and jazz in grand cities like New York.
She loved her family and was always the first one there to offer help for family or friends.
Ginger, along with her siblings, enjoyed bowling on the Main Construction team at Wedgewood Lanes.
Ginger found happiness in the kitchen, baking delightful treats, most notably her famous kolache and Bulgarian eggs. In the summer, Ginger could always be found in the backyard, sunbathing for hours with her baby oil and iodine mixture and tin foil while listening to Libby’s Polkas on the radio. Great conversations were always enjoyed with friends and family on the front porch, especially when accompanied by Cornersburg Pizza with onions and extra green peppers. Ginger also loved decorating the house for all the holidays.
Ginger was preceded in death by her infant sisters, Rita and Mary Jane Antonoff; sisters, Anne Main, Dorothy Hoffman and Nancy Rosko; two brothers, Anthony “Tony” and Michael “Mickey” Antonoff; and her late husband, Edward Thompson, whom she married in 1969.
She is survived by her daughters, Jill Thompson of Canfield and Connie (Cameron) Wymer Howat of Cranberry, Pa.; son, Scott Hopkins; niece, Kerri (Bill) Wollet and nephew, Brock Main, both of Canfield, who provided loving care; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews
The family finds comfort in knowing that she is dancing once again.
