AUSTINTOWN - Services will be Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel, for Walter Baust, 72, who died at his home Tuesday, surrounded by his family.
Walter was born Feb. 24, 1940, in Pittsburgh, the son of John H. and Mary Schultz Baust.
After graduating from Allegheny High School, he enlisted at the age of 18 in the U.S. Air Force, where he proudly served for six years. He later worked at General Motors Lordstown and in 1990, he and his wife became the owner operators of The Lockwood House Banquet Center in Boardman, until retiring in 2002.
Walt had a passion for all old classic cars. He had restored many but his last two were his pride and joy, a 1956 Chevy Belair and a 1936 Ford Tudor. He had won numerous first place and best of show awards with these cars. He took great pride in his hobby of restoring classic cars and displayed the same attention to detail in the upkeep of his beautiful home.
He will be sadly missed by his wife, Evangeline, whom he married June 20, 1969; his children and grandchildren, Walt Jr. and his wife, Silvia; daughters Deborah Lynn Baust and her husband, Greg Caggiano, and her children from John E. Pechatsko, John Walter and Noah Joseph Pechatsko, Margaret Frances Baust and her husband, Geoffrey Burkett and thier children, Jonathan, James, Floyd and Mary Elizabeth Burkett; sons Tracy Lee Baust, Dennis John Baust and his sons Dennis Jr and Guy Baust, a stepson, Shannon and his wife, Margaret Soberanes and their children, Robert, Daniel and Cece, a stepdaughter, Andrea and her husband, Marc Tolbert and their daughter, Miranda; and his sisters, Hazel Thorniley and Mary Scialabba.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Marc and a sister Delores "Dolly" Miller.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel.
