POLAND - William "Bill" Burke passed away quietly on Saturday Dec. 23, 2017, at the age of 88 while at the Hospice House of North Lima.
Bill was born in Youngstown, a graduate of Ursuline High School and Youngstown State University. He also served in the Marine Corps during the Korean War.
He worked in Industrial Management, working at Boardman Steel for 29 years before retiring in 1999.
Bill was active in the Mill Creek Baseball league, serving as President, Trustee, Coach and Manager during his tenure. He was one of the founding fathers of the Mill Creek Girls Softball League, one of the first girls leagues in the Mahoning Valley.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Ruth and Joseph Burke; his brothers, Peter J. Burke and Gerald Burke; his wife, Gloria Guran Burke; and his son, Thomas P. Burke.
He leaves behind four children, Kathleen (Marty) Potnick of Lake Tahoe, Nev., Daniel (Ann) Burke of New Orleans, Nancy Burke of Cincinnati, and W. Patrick (Dawn) Burke of Poland. He had 16 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Calling hours will be Thursday, Dec. 28, 2017, from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Poland Chapel.
Prayers will begin Friday at 11:45 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:30 p.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Church.
