POLAND - William "Bill" Dan Galla, 73, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2016, surrounded by his loved ones at Hospice House.
Bill was born March 31, 1943, in Youngstown, the son of John and Elizabeth (Kondas) Galla.
He was a 1961 graduate of Chaney High School and continued his education at several trade schools, receiving several certificates.
Bill was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and served his country during the Vietnam War.
He was employed 37 years with Johnson Controls, where he worked as a plumber and later as their project manager. Upon retirement in 2013, he started his own company WELAG and spent three years as a consultant for Johnson Controls.
Bill was a member of Union Local 396 for 49 years and also served 38 years with the United Association of Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 396 as a certified instructor. A wing of the new training facility was named in his honor, called "Bill Galla Wing of Education" for his many years of service and dedication.
He was very active in the Zion Lutheran Church in Cornersburg. A true family man, he spent several years supporting and coaching his children in Poland athletics and was a past president of the Poland Community Baseball Association. In 2000, Bill was elected into the Poland Baseball Hall of Fame.
He was also a member of the Saxon Club. Bill was always very active and especially enjoyed golfing, cooking, and his annual family beach vacations.
Bill is survived by his wife, the former Beverly MacPherson, whom he married July 26, 1969; a daughter, Sharon (Jim) Stitt of New Middletown; sons William (Karla) Galla of Charlotte, N.C. and John Galla of Boardman; sisters Elsie Hilton and Betty Bushong. both of Florida, and Maryann (George) Richardson of Canfield; and seven grandchildren, Elizabeth, Lillian and William Galla, Ava and Gia DiMaiolo and Preston and Cassie Stitt.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Ann Parobek; and brothers John, Paul and Edward Galla.
Family and friends may call Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Poland Chapel and Monday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Aug. 29, 2016, at 11 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Cornersburg.
Interment will be held at Poland Riverside Cemetery.
