BOARDMAN - Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at the Tabernacle Evangelical Presbyterian Church for William P. "Bill" Garrett, 77, who died Monday morning at St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center.
William was born Feb. 19, 1936, in Coalcenter, Pa., to Calmont and Mary (Rasefske) Garrett.
He graduated from Allegheny High School in 1953 and attended Carnegie College, where he studied traffic and transportation.
William worked at White Star Trucking Inc. for over 35 years. He then worked as a supervisor for Carolina Freight until his retirement in 1996.
Because of his love for plants and flowers, William worked for Greenleaf Landscaping in the sales department in his spare time. He was a member of the Tabernacle Evangelical Presbyterian Church for many years, a member of Community Bible Study and the Christian Businessmen Committee (CBMC). William also taught adult classes at several churches for 40 years.
William is survived by his wife, Irene (Gardner), whom he married April 15, 1961; two sons, James Garrett of Boardman and DeWayne Garrett of Ohio; two sisters, Gail (Michael) Blonar of Pennsylvania and June Garrett of Pennsylvania; a brother, James A. (Linda) Garrett of Pennsylvania; and three grandchildren, Zackary, Jackelyn and McKenzie Garrett.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Family and friends may call on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Boardman-Canfield Chapel and Friday morning from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that tributes take the form of donations to the Hope Center for Cancer Care, 835 Southwestern Run, Youngstown, OH 44514.
