YOUNGSTOWN - Prayers will be held Monday at 11:30 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at noon, at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, for William J. Janik, 87, who passed away early Thursday morning at Briarfield Manor.
William was born Aug. 9, 1927, in Youngstown, a son of the late John and Katherine (Holecko) Janik.
William served in the U.S. Marine Corp. during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He retired in 1987, after 42 years with L.T.V. Steel/Youngstown Sheet and Tube as a welder in the boiler and weld shop. He was also a carrier for The Vindicator since Feb. 23, 1987.
William was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church and their Senior Citizens. He was also a member of Mahoning County Federation of Sportsmen's Club, Mahoning Valley Gun Collectors, and a life member of Marine Corp. League. He was also a member of the Campbell Golf League and Camens Center Golf League.
Her wife, the former Genevieve M. Goers, whom he married May 14, 1955, passed away May 28, 2002.
William leaves his son, John Paul (Maria) Janik of Willowck; and three granddaughters, Julia, Sophia, and Ava Janik.
William also was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Chytra and Helen Wacht; and a half sister, Mary Sikora.
Family and friends may pay their respects Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will take place at Resurrection Cemetery with military honors.
