William Scheetz

FORT MYERS, FLA. - A prayer service will be held Saturday at 9:15 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Brendan Catholic Church in Youngstown, for Mr. William Frank Scheetz, 99, who died Wednesday at JoAnne's House at Hope Hospice in Bonita Springs, Fla., surrounded by his family.

He was born Oct. 22, 1915, in Youngstown, a son of Frank and Emma Aldenhoven Scheetz.

Bill was a charter member of St. Brendan Church and school and later a charter member of St. Michael Church in Canfield.

In 1934, he was a graduate of Chaney High School, and he also attended Youngstown College.

Bill was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Pacific Theatre during World War II with the 77th Infantry Division. He received the World War II Victory Medal, the American Theater Ribbon, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Service Star, Good Conduct Medal, and the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, with three Bronze Service Stars.

He retired from Hy-Way Systems Inc. in 1979, as a sales engineer and had traveled all 50 states. He and his wife, Mary Frances, then moved to southwest Florida, where they both did TV commercials together.

Bill was married to the former Mary Frances Skibo, whom he married Nov. 15, 1947, and she departed this life Sept. 13, 2014.

He leaves to cherish his memory, a son, Charles of Fort Myers; two daughters, Rosemary Scheetz-Bruce and husband Robert Bruce of Bonita Springs, and Patti and husband Gary Dionisio of Boardman; and a grandson, William Dionisio.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary Frances; and three sisters, Dorothy Fear, Mary Catherine Scull and Ruth Scheetz.

Bill's family would like to express sincere gratitude to JoAnne's House at Hope Hospice in Bonita Springs and to Lower Keys Medical Center ICU for their incredible care of their dad.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Brendan's Church in William's memory.

Friends may call on Friday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
