POLAND — William C. “Bill” Simmons, 62, died suddenly Sunday, July 26, 2020, at St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital, of an apparent heart attack.
Bill was born Oct. 12, 1957, in Youngstown, the son of Albert and Leona Ganey Simmons.
He was a 1975 graduate of East High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in social work from Youngstown State University.
For over 30 years, Bill owned and operated Break Thru, a Medicaid waiver provider for individuals with mental disabilities, which was based out of Akron.
Bill’s job was his passion and he loved helping his clients. When he wasn’t working, Bill enjoyed being on the golf course.
Bill is survived by his loving wife, the former Mary Divito, whom he married June 25, 1983; son, Christopher (Jessica) Simmons of Canfield; three brothers, Richard (Carrie) Simmons of Canfield, Lawrence Simmons of San Jose, Calif. and Don Simmons of Youngstown; and niece, Alyssa Simmons.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Karen Nelson.
Private family services were held at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Poland Chapel, celebrated by the Rev. Msgr. Michael J. Cariglio.
